The eerie beauty of coastal wetlands on a foggy or cloudy day, allows us to imagine the teeming life amidst this important ecology. Imagine the fortitude of plants to survive in this briny and constantly changing environment. Wetlands protect the land and provide sustenance to plants, fish, and wildlife. The photo, Light Over Salt Marsh, was created on such a cloudy, rainy day at Gray’s Beach in Yarmouth. Although this is an oft-photographed iconic scene, the emphasis here is on the light over a environment of ever-changing tides and salinity. Amid such harsh diurnal changes, the marsh is teaming with life, its resilience is truly remarkable. And the light beckoning just beyond the boardwalk pulls us towards the promise of such resilience.
